About GIS
GIS is an independent agency
committed to helping you plan for the unexpected. You can feel
confident when you do business with us that we are always looking
for ways, both big and small, that make a difference. We believe
in one-on-one relationships and tailoring a plan to meet your needs.
Since 1990, Mike Kane has worked in the insurance industry and
strives to provide the very best coverage for his customers. In
1995, GIS became an independent agency specializing in building
contractors and forest products insurance. In 2003, GIS and Grand
Rapids Insurance Agency formed an alliance to benefit from the
expertise of both agencies. After three years, GIS acquired Grand
Rapids Insurance Agency and combined the staff and services of
both agencies.
GIS employs eleven licensed agents between the Grand Rapids and
Deer River offices. Rick Hutchins is a
full-time agent in Deer River. Agents Kim Richardson and Shelley
Birkholz share their time between the two locations.
GIS insures building contractors and associated trades, logging
and trucking, healthcare facilities and small business owners.
They also maintain a full line of personal lines insurance which
includes auto, home, umbrella, motorcycle and all the toys in addition
to life, health and employee benefits. GIS holds contracts with
dozens of companies to maintain the best possible coverage and
cost for their clients.
